Designing environments where every body belongs. Cultivating emotional safety, spatial dignity, and inclusive practices across clinical, academic, and community spaces.

“Fierce healing; a warm embrace”

The Story Behind the Name:

My practice is named for a beautiful balance: the protective advocacy of Artemis, and the grounded sanctuary of the Hearth.

After 20 years on the front-lines of direct, supportive care—navigating community support for those with disabilities, intensive family teams, school counseling, and forensic evaluations—I have realized that individual care is only half the equation. Our well-being is deeply tied to the history and environments we inhabit, and the institutions/systems/cultures that we navigate. Artemis & Hearth was born from a desire to shift our focus from just treating the person, to supporting, healing, cultivating and empowering the whole system.

  • The Moon (Artemis): This represents intuitive wisdom, natural cycles of light and dark, and fierce, protective advocacy. It/she is a symbol of empowerment, agency, and sovereignty. Just as the moon offers a gentle, steady light in the dark, this pillar is a commitment to liberation, lifting up oppressed communities, honoring unique paths of healing, and building systemic equity.

    • Artemis is the Greek goddess of the wild, the hunt, and the moon. As a fierce protector of women, children, and sovereign boundaries, she embodies untamed independence and self-reliance.

  • The Fire (Hearth/Hestia): This represents the warmth of community safety, support, connection, comfort and inclusivity. If the moon recognizes our truth, fire is the boundary that protects it. Here, we honor the flame of change, not as something to be quieted, but as a sacred, clarifying force—the ancestral immune system demanding justice. It burns away the debris of compliance to illuminate and cultivate your sovereignty.

    • Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth, provides the containment for this heat. She takes raw, chaotic anger and houses it safely within the sanctuary of the self. Hestia’s presence transforms a destructive forest fire into a structured, radiating flame—warming your boundaries, centering your power, and keeping your inner space fiercely protected.

  • A Note on Heritage and Practice:

    • While my practice operates under the banner of Artemis & Hearth—using these classical Greek archetypes as a universal language for wild sovereignty and the sacred flame — my personal lineage roots me in the mists, ancient forests, and coastlines of England, Scotland, and Wales, with threads reaching into France and Germany as well.

    • As a practitioner from the Global North, I hold a deep awareness of the historical weight of colonialism tied to my UK ancestry. Because of this, my connection to my heritage is deliberate: I do not honor empires or systems of oppression. Instead, I reach back to my pre-colonial roots—connecting with the earth-based folklore and protective traditions of the land itself.

    • When I invoke Artemis, I also hold space for Ellen of the Ways and Flidais, the ancient British and Celtic guardians of the wild. When I speak of the Hearth, I sit not just by Hestia's flame, but at the alchemical forge of Brigid, the Celtic keeper of fire. By anchoring my work in these ancient, land-honoring traditions, I bring a grounded, deeply protective energy into the sanctuary of your space.

Today, as a Human Rights scholar at Arizona State University, I work at this very intersection. Whether I am consulting with organizations to create inclusive work-spaces, designing trauma-informed environments, or offering supportive therapy online, my mission is simple: creating a world where growth is fiercely protected, and the space holding it is safe and warm.

Positionality & Practice:

I practice on the occupied ancestral lands of the Cherokee and Catawba peoples (North Carolina). As a white, middle-class, American of UK descent, I acknowledge the systemic privilege my lineage holds. Living with a disability (hard of hearing) gives me an intimate window into structural barriers, but it does not replace the intersectional trauma of white supremacy. I am a student of liberation, human rights, and social justice. My work at Artemis & Hearth is a commitment to leveraging my systemic privileges to actively disrupt colonial frameworks and uplift historically oppressed communities, with deep reverence for Indigenous land and sovereignty.

Liberation-Verified

De-centering traditional Eurocentric clinical models to offer care that actively honors intersectional, queer, disabled, and minoritized lived experiences.

Our Anchor Frameworks:

Environmental Dignity

Designing physical layouts to prioritize sensory accessibility, reduce hyperarousal, and respect the inherent dignity of the bodies navigating them.

Intentional Allyship

Utilizing my position as an ASU Human Rights scholar to channel lineage privilege into systemic advocacy. Acknowledging that I am and always will be a student.

The Three Pillars:

Therapeutic Design

Elevating mood and protecting human dignity through trauma-informed environmental layout.

Systemic & Spatial Consulting

Decolonizing institutional frameworks, clinic models, and community systems.

Liberation-Centered Care

Healing-centered psychotherapy for individuals, anchored in justice.
